On the fourth of december, Saint Barbara´s day, it is a German tradition to cut a branch off a cherry tree (or pretty much any other blooming tree) and put it into a vase in your warm home. It will bloom exactly on christmas.
I love this tradition, there is something magical about a branch blooming right in the middle of winter. So these are my Barbara´s branches this year: I chose flowering quince, because I adore the blossoms... I hope they will bloom for me!
P.S. If you want more blossoms, bath your branch in warm water for one night.
What a lovely tradition! Even the bare branch has its own kind of beauty.
ReplyDeleteI like how every culture has it´s own traditions- it think it is fun to try out foreign ones, but it is always important to hang on to your own, too!
