DIY knitted vase cover

I am not a gifted knitter, so I love easy projects using simple stitches and big yarn.

This one was done quickly in one or two evenings (and meanwhile my fingers were too busy to reach for all those delicious christmas cookies - always a plus in my opinion).

You need big yarn, a couple of buttons, an empty can and some branches.

Knit a rectangle, alternating between one knit stich and one garter stitch.

You can knit in button holes as I did, just bind off three stitches and then cast them on again in the next row. Make sure the holes are at the right spot to later close the cover around the jar.

You can also do a plain rectangle, stitch it closed and sew on the buttons for decoration only.

Once your done knitting, put the cover around the tin and fill it with some branches (I collected mine in a nearby forest - natural surplies are the best!)

Fix the branches in the correct position with a rubber band, or fill up the can with pineapples to keep them in place.

I will continue to decorate my branches  in the next weeks: I am posting an advent calender,  presenting 24 seasonal tutorials until christmas eve - including a couple of very cute ornaments.

I hope to see you there!

  4. Thanks, happy you liked it! It makes me more confident that even as a quite poor knitter, you (or rather me) can create nice results.
